Two things:
Well done to the website - and this is coming from a Durban United fan.

Two - any Mansfield Old Boys reading this please get in contact with me - 2011 Mansfield would have been 100 years old - and we want to do something special - need your names and contact details
Many thanks

how fascinating to find this site - all because a buddy and i (watching the world cup and the dismal performance of english goalkeepers) got into a discussion about south african goalies playing in england, and the name of arthur lightning came up.
googled him and then meandered into this site.
brought back a huge wedge of memories.
we were at hoy park in durban for city's first match against arcadia shepherds. goalies sort of led the news that day; trevor gething of shepherds was seriously injured and city were without a goalie virtually until kick-off time when gordon stewart (parkhill and professional with an english club and later durban united) said he'd do the job.

Hi Tony, I received a very pleasant surprise the other day when I came across the Durban City Website. Let me congratulate you on a great job in producing it. I don't know if you remember me, I was a foundation member of Durban City, being with them from 1959--1972. I took over the duties from Aussie Crawford when he went up to Johannesburg.

It was so nice reading some of the comments, especially from Gary Brown, and the relations of some of the ex players. I noticed that there were people who are now living in Canada. My wife and I came to Vancouver here in Canada 10 years ago, and I would like to contact some of those who are also over here.

Should there be any of your readers who would like to have a chat with me about the "old days" I would like to hear from them.

Regards

Don Law

I was associated with Durban City from the first game at Hoy Park until 1972, and took over from Aussie Crawford when he left to go to Johannesburg. Reading through your website brings back many memories. There are many stories that I could tell about City in those days, and just exactly what the " Silver Fox " was like. A lot of people are unaware of what Norman did outside of soccer, and many was the time when players from other clubs came to him for help. I am now living in Vancouver Canada and would like to contact several of the people who have already written on this site, and are now living in Canada.
Keep up the good work, it is really a great achievement.

Hi All
Sad news in recent months we have lost two goalkeepers.

Jose Pinto played in goals for Lusitano in the late 60's and early 70's born 12/7/47 died in Joburg 18/12/09
And Acursio Carrelo high profile goalkeeper at the time having played for Portugal and FC Porto kept goal for Southern Suburbs in the 60's born 16/3/31 died in Portugal 09/01/2010

Rest In Peace
